Context
Many new investors are interested in the stock market but hesitate to start because the risk feels too high. Making mistakes with real money can feel intimidating.
Bloom's virtual stock market allows users to simulate investing using real market data without financial risk.
Alongside the simulation experience, I also designed a competitive investing system for college students, allowing users to compete in stock picking tournaments with friends, classmates, and other universities.
This turned investing from a solo learning activity into a social competition.

The Problem I Uncovered
Most investing platforms assume users already understand how markets work. For beginners this creates several barriers:
• Fear of losing money
• Lack of practical investing experience
• Difficulty understanding how trades impact a portfolio
Without a safe environment to experiment, many people hesitate to start investing.
At the same time, we noticed that college students were highly engaged when investing became social or competitive, rather than purely educational.

The Goal
Create a risk-free trading experience where users can learn the mechanics of investing by actually doing it. The product needed to:
• Simulate real trading conditions
• Make portfolio performance easy to understand
• Help users build confidence before investing real money

Simulated Trading
Users receive a virtual balance and can buy or sell stocks using real market data. The experience mirrors real trading while removing the financial risk, allowing users to experiment with strategies and learn how markets move.

Portfolio Tracking
This dashboard allows students to track their portfolio performance while a competition is live. It shows how their investment strategy is performing in real time as they compete against other universities.

Cross Platform Design
The experience was designed across mobile, tablet, and desktop to support different ways users interact with investing. Mobile focused on quick actions and checking performance, while larger screens allowed users to explore data and track their portfolio during tournaments.
